The New Colonial Hotel in Meyersdale is still standing and looking for a new lease on life. (I uncovered this while researching Meyersdale, home of the Pennsylvania Maple Festival.) This Colonial Revival hotel opened in 1904, closed in the 1970s, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel's original owners had strong connections to Baltimore and the Stafford Hotel (which is now apartments).
The latest owners--recognizing the building's potential--are looking to develop the property and so built a great website describing both the building's past and future. The hotel's history reads as a microcosm of the history of 20th-century hotel development in the United States.
So many old buildings are being repurposed as hotels these days. Someone needs to figure out how to repurpose this old hotel.
